⚡ EV Grants Explained: Save up to £350 on Home and Workplace Chargers

The UK Government offers several grants to help make electric vehicle (EV) charging more affordable. These grants cover part of the cost of buying and installing home, business, and landlord chargepoints.

Below, we’ve simplified everything so you can quickly see what applies to you and how to get started.

🏠 Homeowners, Renters and Flat Owners

EV Chargepoint Grant (Up to £350)

If you live in a flat or rent a property with private off-street parking, you could get up to £350 off the cost of a home charger.

You’re eligible if:

  • You rent your home or own a flat (including shared ownership).
  • You have a private driveway or allocated parking space.
  • You own, lease, or have an electric car on order.

Example:

Sarah rents a flat with its own parking space. She’s ordering a Kia Niro EV and books an OZEV-approved installer through a partner site. She pays £649 for her charger and installation but gets £350 off, reducing the total to £299.

You can’t apply if:

  • You already claimed under the old EVHS grant.
  • You own a house (unless it’s split into flats).
  • You’re a lodger in someone else’s home.
  • You’re moving house soon.

🚗 Homes With On-Street Parking Only

If you park on the street, you can still claim up to £350 — but you’ll need a cross-pavement charging solution (such as a recessed cable channel).

You’re eligible if:

  • You rent or own your home.
  • You have no private driveway.
  • You get permission from your local council to install a charging channel.

Example:

David lives in a terraced house and parks on the street. His installer adds a cable gully across the pavement, so he can safely charge his car from his home socket. He receives the on-street parking grant and saves £350 on the installation.

🏢 Landlords and Property Managers

Landlord Chargepoint and Infrastructure Grant

Landlords can claim up to £350 per socket for residential or commercial properties, and up to £30,000 per property if adding supporting infrastructure (like wiring and ducting for future chargers).

Residential landlords can apply if they:

  • Own or manage flats, housing blocks, or private rentals.
  • Provide tenants with off-street parking.
  • Use an OZEV-authorised installer.

Commercial landlords can apply if they:

  • Own business premises or offices with staff parking.
  • Are installing chargers for tenants or employees.

Example:

A landlord installs 4 chargers in a private car park for tenants. The total install cost is £2,000. The government covers £1,400 through the grant, leaving just £600 to pay.

💼 Businesses and Workplaces

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

Businesses, charities, and public sector organisations can get up to £350 per socket, for up to 40 sockets across all sites.

This can be used for:

  • Office parking
  • Warehouses and depots
  • Charity or public sector vehicle fleets

Example:

A plumbing company installs 10 chargepoints at its depot for staff vans. Each costs £700 to install. The WCS grant covers £350 per unit, saving £3,500 in total.

EV Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets

Small and medium-sized businesses can claim up to £15,000 per site, covering:

  • £350 per chargepoint
  • £500 per space prepared for future installation

This supports fleet or staff charging, and can be used across up to five different sites.

🏫 Education Sector

Workplace Charging Scheme for State-Funded Schools

State schools and educational institutions can claim up to £2,500 per socket, with a maximum of 40 sockets across all their sites.
This is ideal for schools planning staff or visitor EV charging.

⚙️ How to Apply

  1. Choose an OZEV-approved installer.
  2. Confirm eligibility and gather any proof needed (e.g. tenancy agreement or vehicle order).
  3. Your installer will handle most of the paperwork during installation.
  4. You’ll receive the grant discount directly in your invoice — no waiting for reimbursement.

💡 Quick Tip

Always make sure your installer is OZEV-authorised — otherwise, you won’t qualify for any grant funding.
